The Boat |
| April 2005 We travel into the heart of DRC along the 1,700 km Congo River. It's a journey that provides a rare insight into a country still struggling for peace. There's a saying in the DRC: if the river is happy, the country is happy. "The river ensures the unity of the country," explains director Jean Casongo. "It feeds us and it unifies us." But since the war, the river boat industry has collapsed. Now, the government hopes to revitalise it again. |

Congo's Curse |
| July 2006 The militias, formed during Congo's civil war, now control much of the country's natural resources. The government faces a big problem disarming them. The war may officially be over, but the militias remain. "Gold is the reason why every year, we have war and rebellions", states Ngabu Adirodu. It is still too dangerous for aid workers to travel without military escorts. The population is trapped between rival militias and the new army and many towns have been deserted. As one man states: "We are as afraid of the army as the militias." |

Kabila's Congo |
| June 1999 Following Kabila's takeover, Kinshasa's unpaid and undervalued middle classes urgently want a better life. We examine the future of a new regime which rode to power promising real change. At informal 'street parliaments', the educated classes scrutinise every aspect of Kabila's rule and what they find makes them nervous - they're awaiting democracy and jobs. In one group lawyers and doctors gather for anxious political debate. At Kinshasa's version of Wall Street, located on a muddy road, American dollars change hands for local currency during vigorous trading: official banks have little or no cash. American-educated Deogratias Baharama works unpaid at the dilapidated Ministry of Agriculture. His wife Jean sells beans at market just to keep their dingy home. Finance Minister Mwampanga Mwana Nanga wants to kick start the economy but has a problem, "I need hard cash. I need money", he sighs. A printing press still churns out sheets of virtually worthless paper money. At a political rally Laurent Kabila provokes a frenzy with a promise to end unemployment. Though wary of the future, people are, for now, prepared to 'wait and see'. |

Sauver les gorilles de montagne au Congo |
| Feb 2007 Days before Senkwekwe and three other mountain gorillas were killed, journalist Paul Raffaele filmed Senkwekwe in the wild. He reports on the battle to save the world's mountain gorillas. In the mountains of the DRC, silverback gorilla Senkwekwe watches over his young family. A few weeks later, he was dead, alongside three females in his harem. It was the worst gorilla massacre in 25 years. "There's a threat to the gorillas from poaching, for the exotic pet trade", explains ranger Rob Muir. Gorillas now share their habitat with rebel militias, driven into the hills by UN peacekeepers. These rebels could have been responsible for the killing of another two mountain gorillas earlier. "They were stripped of all their flesh", describes Muir. |

Ape Smuggling - Congo |
| October 2007 A rare exposé of the illegal trade in endangered animals, shipped to order from Congo to American zoos. Conservationist Karl Amman followed one consignment of monkeys every stage of the way. It was described as; "the biggest shipment of primates that has ever come out of the Congo". Of the 100 monkeys exported, 34 went to the United States. The zoos claim these monkeys were rescued from the bush meat trade but the paperwork suggests they were probably caught to order and illegally exported. |
